Braun Silk Epil 5 Epilator

Braun Silk Epil 5 Epilator

Before my trip to Rome, I was searching for advice on what sort of razors I could bring onto the plane and became frustrated with conflicting advice.  Before I knew it, I bit the bullet and a brand new epilator was making it's way to my doorstep from Amazon.  We've all been there right? Purchasing an epilator was always something I had considered before but the stories of pain always put me off but after reading some reviews I decided to give it a go and I picked up the Braun Silk Epil 5 Epilator.  If you've never used one before, here's what you should expect.

An epilator is a method of hair removal where the applicator clasps on and pulls the hair straight from the root.  Think of it as waxing without the wax.  Braun seemed to be the most well known, trusted brand of epilators I'd came across so it was tough narrowing it down between all of the models.

Despite others being able to be used in water, I opted for the Braun Silk Epil 5 Epilator which can only be used plugged in.  My reason for this choice is that lots of reviews seemed to say that the portable kinds lasted much less in the long run as the batteries started to become weak over time so I wanted something that would last.

A great thing about this version is that it comes with 5 attachments including a massage head, a shaver, plus three other attachments so you can use the epilator in more sensitive areas such as face or bikini line.  It also has a little brush to clean away any hairs and an ice pack glove (which I find a bit unnecessary).  One thing I should point out is that it only comes with a 2 pin plug so if you don't have a shaver plug in your home and you're from the UK, you will need to purchase an adaptor separately.

The thing everyone probably wants to know is how much does it hurt.  In all honesty, it's really not that bad.  Now it's not the best feeling in the world but it's definitely bearable.  Either I have a high pain tolerance or the rest of the Amazon reviewers are wimps, I'm really not sure but personally I find it less painful than waxing.  This of course doesn't include the pain of epilating your bikini line.. but the legs are fine.

As for it's effectiveness, I love the fact that I can go a full week without needing to shave my legs.  I find that at the start it doesn't quite catch all the hairs but a good exfoliation of the legs before hand really helps.  Plus with regular use, your hair production seems to slow down and your legs stay smoother for longer.

Overall I'm really happy with my purchase and I wish I'd picked one up sooner.  I always thought they were too expensive but for £40, it's a real bargain.  Plus if you add up the price you spend on all those disposable razors, you'll save much more in the long run.  Epilating is the way forward!

Where to buy: Braun Silk Epil 5 Epilator - Amazon (£42.49)
