Superdrug Colour Performance Hair Colourant in Natural Dark Brown

Superdrug Colour Performance Hair Colourant in Natural Dark Brown

Every few months my hair colour starts to fade and it's time to pick up a new hair dye.  While it can be tempted to get it taken care of at a hairdressers, it's not always worth the cost for me.  For something a little more accident prone such as highlights, I'm all for it but when it comes to going slightly darker.. a good old box dye does the job.  Over the years I've stuck with the same 2 brands but this time I felt like giving something else a try and the Superdrug Colour Performance Hair Colourant in Natural Dark Brown made its way into my basket.  Here's how I got on with it.

The Superdrug Colour Performance Hair Colourant is just like any other box dye.  It comes with the colour itself, a developer bottle and an intense conditioner.  Plus the instructions and gloves of course.  One thing I really liked is the size of the intense conditioner as you can use it even after the dying process to keep your hair really soft and nourished.

The colour I chose was Natural Dark Brown (4.0).  I tend to prefer hair colours with a cool tone rather than warm as I feel like it has much more of a natural finish.  The dying process was fairly easy, mix the 1 and 2 product together and apply to the hair.  I found with my long hair that I needed two boxes to completely cover the hair so if you have long hair, it's best to get two just incase.

After 30 minutes (which for a dye seemed a little bit long for me), it was ready to rinse out.  This was an easy process and the conditioner gave my hair some much needed moisture.  However colour wise, compared to other dyes of the same colour I found that the results weren't quite as dramatic.  Normally after dying my hair, it goes extremely dark then gradually fades whereas after this dye, it only looked a tiny bit darker.  This could be both an advantage or disadvantage depending on the way you look at it but for me, I missed that dramatic change I'm normally used to.

For the price, it's certainly not a bad hair colorant.  Plus being a Superdrug branded product, it's also cruelty free which is very difficult to find in hair colourants.  However, f you're looking for a bit more of a dramatic change, it's maybe best to look elsewhere.
