Makeup Academy Spring 2015 Collection

Makeup Academy Spring Collection: Whipped Velvet Lipstick
Over the years I've seen a real surge in budget beauty brands, however up until now I've never really given them a shot.  With MUA's Spring 2015 collection just coming out, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to give a few of their products a go and see if they're worth the hype.  Stay tuned till the end for a cheeky little discount code too!

Makeup Academy Spring Collection: Pressed Powder and Pout Prime Smoothing Lip Primer
I go through face powder like nothing else so I was excited to try the MUA Translucent Pressed Powder (£1) to see how it compares to my usual Rimmel Stay Matte.  From first looking at the colour I thought it looked quite dark to be translucent but after swatching it completely disappears into the skin.  The powder itself is silky soft so it feels lovely on the skin but I find it doesn't have the right level of oil control properties that I need.  If your skin isn't too oily and you need a setting powder, give this a go.

Something I was excited to try when I first saw it was the MUA Pout Prime Smoothing Lip Primer (£3).  It's essentially a lip balm in stick form but it does make me wonder, why hasn't anyone else came out with a product like this until now?? I often find my lips need a bit of preparation before applying certain lipsticks so this lip primer gives my lips a lovely smooth surface to work with before popping on my shade of choice.  I can see this living in my handbag for the foreseeable future.

Makeup Academy Spring Collection: Whipped Velvet Lipstick
Another new addition to the Spring collection is the MUA Luxe Whipped Velvet Lips (£3) which I'd describe as a sort of lipgloss/lip lacquer hybrid.  The range comes with 5 different shades as you can see above with something for everyone.  They aren't drying on the lips which is great but I do have to say, as someone who is quite pale I found the shade range didn't work out for me with my colouring so that is something to keep in mind.  However, I did find the shade Ritzy worked out perfectly and I think it's one of the shades that will work for most people.  Compared to the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet lipsticks I don't think they're quite as pigmented as those but with a little bit of layering you can have a more dramatic look.

They also have Whipped Velvet Blushers with the same names and shades as the lipsticks which I think is a great idea.  It makes it really easy to match your shades together.

There we have it, just a small selection from the MUA Spring 2015 collection!  The lovely people over at MUA have given us an exclusive discount code to share with you if you fancy picking up some products for yourself.  Just enter MUALW10 at the shopping cart for your discount which is valid until 04/03/15.  Happy shopping!
