Try Before Buy: Beauty Sample Testing

After one two many trips to Space NK aiding my candle obsession and my monthly reading of ELLE, I seemed to have collected quite a few beauty samples.  Whenever one of these sample packets enter my life, they're usually tossed into a box and forgotten about months later.  Instead of collecting dust and being rediscovered in my next spring clean, I thought I would give them a proper try and update you on my progress.  Who knows they might contain my next holy grail, which is the way I discovered my beloved Estee Lauder Idealist Serum!

I've had my eye on the Bumble and Bumble Surf range for quite some time so I was looking forward to trying the new shampoo and conditioner that they recently brought out.  For summer (and in general) I love volumised and messy hair, that doesn't require too much effort to achieve.  At first I loved the scent of this, it’s such a beachy scent.  When I put on the shampoo and conditioner I wasn't noticing any changes, I expected my hair to be a lot dryer during the washing stage but the real results come through once your hair has dried.  It just gives the most volumised messy but tamed wave ever.  It doesn't take too much effort for me to get volume but this made such a big difference.  Really impressed with this stuff.  I don't tend to spend a lot of money on haircare so the full size products at £18 each probably won’t be purchased anytime soon, but I might pick up the travel size trio when I feel like treating myself!

Eve Lom seems to be everywhere right now so I’m glad I got to try out a few things before committing to a purchase.  The first sample I tried was the Eve Lom TLC Radiance Cream which is a moisturiser that is supposed to make your skin feel more hydrated and radiant.  I loved the lightweight feel and it would make a great under makeup moisturiser but the scent was a little overpowering.  As it’s an age-defying moisturiser I found it left my skin feeling a little too tight but I love how soft my skin felt afterwards and how quickly it set into my skin.  At £45 I can't say I'd purchase the full size anytime soon but it might be perfect for more mature skin.

Next is the latest BB cream that beauty bloggers have been raving about, the Dior Nude BB Cream.  I've had this sample for a while but the main reason why it’s been unopened until now is that it’s had such great reviews that I don't want to be addicted!  It’s safe to say shade 002 is not my colour, though that tends to be the case with foundation sachet samples.  I can see why there’s hype, it does give a really lovely finish with a subtle glow and it blended out beautifully without a hint of cakeyness but the coverage isn't enough for me personally.  If you have good skin, or even a good skin day and want something that makes your skin look like.. well skin then I couldn't recommend it enough.

As you can see I still have quite a few samples to get through.  My skin has had a pretty bad breakout (I'm blaming an SPF I've been using) so for the meantime I've switched back to a sensitive skin routine but I'll make sure to update you on my sample testing progress!
