Skincare Redness Solutions

Skincare Redness Solutions featuring Mario Badescu Drying Lotion, Weleda Almond Soothing Facial Oil and La Roche-Posay Effaclar H

Sometimes I underestimate how sensitive my skin is.  Having used a lot of oily skin products in the past, it really messed up my skin and I have to be a lot more careful on what I use.  Recently I was trying out a new face scrub, I was loving the results until the next day I woke up to very sensitive, blemishy, bright red patches on my skin, eek!  Perhaps I should pay more attention to the labels, especially when it says NOT FOR SENSITIVE SKIN in big bold letters right in front of me but I'm now learning my lesson.  Not to worry, having dealt with skin redness for quite a while I have a few products on hand to solve the problem.  Here are my skincare redness solutions.

The Mario Badescu Drying Lotion is a wonderful product for those angry red blemishes.  It’s a solution with salicylic acid and calamine lotion which you simply dip a cotton bud into and apply it directly to the blemish.  The salicylic acid helps reduce the blemish and dry it out while the calamine lotion helps calm down the redness.  The process can hurt a bit (especially if you’ve been a bit naughty and popped a blemish) but the results are worth it.  Admittedly you won’t look the most attractive with a bunch of pink dots on your face but once you let it work its magic overnight, the results are amazing.  It’s not often I'll go out and repurchase products but this is my second bottle and as long as the redness is around, I'll continue to do so.

I’ve been addicted to using treatment oils and one of my favourites is the Weleda Almond Soothing Facial Oil* aimed at sensitive skin.  If I were to pick 1 product out of the three it would be this one.  It’s a fragrance-free oil which boosts the protective layer of sensitive skin.  You take a small amount, massage it into moist skin and leave it on overnight.  When I use this, I wake up and my skin looks brand new.  The redness of my skin is barely noticeable and my skin feels lovely and soft for the rest of the day.  I’ve used quite a lot of it and I’ve barely made a dent in it, this stuff with last you forever.  As an added bonus, it also doubles up as an eye make up remover.

I’m quite picky when it comes to finding good daily moisturiser to apply under make up and the La Roche-Posay Effaclar H fits the bill.  It’s basically a lightweight moisturiser aimed at oily skin made fragile from over-drying skincare.  If you have oily skin you’ll find that every product aimed towards you tries to dry your skin out and it’s the exact opposite of what you need, it only makes it worse.  Although my skincare regime is more along the lines of cleansing milks and gentle products today, I still have to repair the damage the oily products have done.  I find that using a little bit of this moisturiser really helps calm my skin down and my make up sits better as a result.

  1. Interesting! My face tends to get a little red from time to time, so there are times when I could really use products like these.
