Brightening Face Products

A review of Boots Botanics All Bright Purifying Face Scrub and Dirty Works Vitamin C Brightening Mask

I’ve been noticing that although my skin has been a lot clearer recently, it still looks a little bit dull and dehydrated.  I've been looking at all different kinds of masks and treatments the beauty bloggers have been raving about to combat this but when the majority of them are priced at £30+ it’s a little bit off putting.

My skincare routine is very gentle and doesn’t contain any oil stripping qualities.  You won’t find any foaming products or strong toners in my skincare basket!  The new additions to my routine are the Dirty Works Vitamin C Brightening Mask and the Boots Botanics All Bright Purifying Face Scrub.

I’m a big fan of using face masks but this one is a little different from your typical peel off or clay mask.  The Dirty Works Vitamin C Brightening Mask* is an exfoliating mask which I’ve never came across before.  I’d say it’s more similar to a face scrub but with a thicker product consistency like a clay mask.  One of the things I like about this mask is the smell, it’s very fruity with pomegranate and goji extracts and has a strong citrus scent so it would be great to use in the morning to wake you up.  As for the brightening qualities, my skin did look a lot clearer and brighter so I’ll definitely continue using it to see if my skin continues to improve.  I do find the packaging to be quite misleading as it definitely does not count as one of your 5 a day as it says on the back so don’t ditch your morning orange juice just yet!  If you ignore the packaging and take it light heartedly, it is a very lovely uplifting mask and I would recommend it.

I’ve never tried anything from the Botanics range but after some enabling by Lisa on a shopping trip I picked up the Boots Botanics All Bright Purifying Face Scrub to try out.  Out of all the face scrubs I’ve tried, I’ve never came across one so creamy and gentle on the skin.  This scrub contains refining walnut shells and crushed apricot seeds to gently buff away impurities and hibiscus to brighten the skin, aided by AHAs which are found in most of the more expensive brightening products.  I think this product is probably the winner for me as it helps clear away flaky skin to reveal fresh bright skin underneath and leaves my skin feeling so soft afterwords.  I think this would be a perfect scrub for someone with slightly more sensitive skin as it is very gentle on the skin.

If you want to pick up any of these products, the Dirty Works mask is available at Sainsburys stores for £4.99 and you can find the Botanics range in any Boots store for £2.69 as it’s currently half price!
