The Academy Of Make-up Event

The Academy Of Make-up Event

We were recently invited to a lovely blogger event hosted by The Academy of Make-up, finally in our hometown of Glasgow!  The Academy of Make-up was founded by Sara Hill, an international make-up artist with 14 years of experience and is basically a place which offers make-up and session styling courses ranging from beginner to intermediate courses which results in gaining qualifications (accredited by the British Association of Beauty Therapists and Cosmetologists) to allow you to practise as a make-up artist.

When we arrived at the event we were greeted by former Academy student Lynsey who knew exactly who we were which was extremely flattering! When we arrived we were immediately given a glass of champagne and a selection of sweets to nibble on, mmm!

The day started with a makeup trend class which Sara demonstrated her makeup artistry skills to achieve a grungy makeup look to the gorgeous model (who was a previous student at the academy) here.  The makeup look involved lots of contouring around the eye area and minimal colour which would make the look less grungy and more girly.

Next we were treated to a session styling demonstration by the lovely Martine Caroll.  The hairstyle here was was very texturised and messy-look which was complimented by the makeup previously done to the model.  By using a texturising spray the hair was able to look like this!  The hair was finished off by using hair pins (bobby pins in US?) in a criss-cross way which was really interesting because usually these grips are meant to be hidden but it made the hair look absolutely gorgeous and almost effortless! We’ll definitely be trying these makeup and hair trends ourselves.

After the trend demonstrations we were shown around the different makeup brands which were showing their products off.  The brands which appeared at the event were so lovely and told us all about each of their products.  This included BM Beauty who showed us their gorgeous range of eyeshadows and brushes, We are Faux lashes who gave us a lovely set of fake lashes to take home with us and WOWbrown who showed us their range of fake tans and answered all of our questions being fake tanning virgins after all!

Of course the event wouldn’t be over without a lovely group photo of us all! We met so many lovely Scottish bloggers such as Ayden, Rani, Charlene, Karris and Amey.  Unfortunately we didn't have time to stick around and speak to the rest of the girls due to silly uni deadlines but we managed to meet up with some of the girls at the last Scottish blogger event last Thursday which we'll blog about soon!

Some events to note were Sami’s clumsy side taking over when she knocked over the clothes rack and had to be saved by Ayden, Rani and Charlene! Can’t be taken anywhere…

  3. Sometimes, I'm interested in going to one of this academy. It'll be interesting to see how make up artists are trained before they start putting make up during events. I must say, they really do a great job with it.

The tutors were really lovely and you could tell they knew what they were talking about. A fellow blogger Lynsey (http://elizabeth-lynsey.blogspot.co.uk/) actually did the course and i'm sure she'd be willing to answer any questions about it if it's this particular academy you're interested in, she's really lovely :) - Sami x
